Lamai Beach

4.3 (3658)

Lamai Beach is one of the largest and most developed beaches on Koh Samui, often considered second after Chaweng. What makes it stand out is its balance — combining beach life, infrastructure, and a more relaxed atmosphere.

The beach stretches for over 4 kilometers and can be divided into three main areas: north, central, and south, each offering a different experience. This variety allows you to choose between activity and quieter spots.

The central area is the most popular and convenient. It features a wide sandy beach, a gradual entry into the water with a quick depth increase, water sports, massages, and full tourist infrastructure. Restaurants, bars, shops, and the Sunday Walking Street market are all nearby.

The northern part is less suitable for swimming due to rocky seabed and shallow water, while the southern part is more scenic, with large rocks and coral areas, making it better for snorkeling but less easy for entering the sea.

The Lamai area extends inland as well, which reduces the feeling of crowding and provides more options for accommodation and exploration. There are shopping centers, local markets, and attractions such as Hin Ta & Hin Yai rocks and cultural sites.

From November to March, the sea can become rougher, making it less ideal for calm swimming but more interesting for those who enjoy waves.

Lamai Beach is a great choice for those who want a bit of everything — beach time, activity, food, and the option to find quieter corners.

I came here and couldn’t figure it out at first — it feels calm, but then there’s waves, food, markets, and movement... you humans really know how to make places where you don’t have to choose anything 😄🌴
